We are putting the finishing touches on our research papers. This is the same research paper from the OLS Composition Unit on Research Papers. If you follow along in your Language Skills: Writing in Action: Level E workbook you will get a step-by-step guide through the process. These lessons are aligned with the OLS.

In our Class Connect sessions we have been using Google Docs for the papers.

When you access the Google Drive you will papers of various colors. These colors signify where your student is at in the process. Please see the attached photo for details.

Expectations for this assignment is that a student find a searchable topic, examine at least three different sources, and the write a 3-4 paragraph essay describing their research and how that research relates to their question. A quick sample essay is provided below, but the students can expand on their details more than what the example illustrated. I am not requiring sources be referenced in quotations or that they use MLA citations. Those elements will come at a later time in their academics. For now, just placing the essay into their own words will suffice. The important part of this assignment is that they see the connection between exploring different sources, extracting the relevant data, and reporting their findings in writing.
